The nominee should be an adult resident of New Mexico, but neither the nominee nor the nominator need be members of the New Mexico Horse Council (NMHC).  The purpose of the award is to honor a New Mexico Horse Person for their support and dedication to horse people, the horse community, and horses.

Some History
Back in 2001, horse council members looked around and perceived what is still true:  there are fine, fine people supporting horses and horse people in New Mexico, and we don’t recognize them enough.  So the Board suggested, and the membership adopted, the Horse Person of the Year award, to be given annually to a person nominated by one (or more) knowledgeable persons, and selected by a Committee appointed by the NMHC President. The board subsequently added a Lifetime Achievement Award to be given in alternating years… more about that in 2017.

How to Nominate
NMHC needs a short biography of the nominee and the wonderful reasons why this person should receive the award.  Neither the nominee nor the nominating person needs to be a member of the New Mexico Horse Council. Submit nominations by email to [email protected] or by mail to PO Box 10206, Albuquerque, NM 87184
